This is a great way to dial yourself back into the game after the inevitable mass removal spell that slipped past your spells like Counters and Teferi's Protection

The original pair could ward off black spells and white spells, respectively, but their protection ability meant they could never actually fight each other

What I really like about Archmages Charm is that it mitigates the biggest problem with counter magic the issue of holding one up only for your opponent to not cast a spell, and youve wasted a turn

The abilities feel at odds with each other

When your opponent enters their upkeep, you can choose to have them gain control of Slicer, Hired Muscle, it gains goad so it has to attack a player other than you, and cannot be sacrificed
