With such an iconic and popular red spell, it makes sense that WotC would make a holiday card inspired by it
While everyone could just buy every Commander 2020 deck in Magical Christmas Land, considering that the decks are selling for around $40, not everyone has the extra money lying around to spend on cardboard, no matter how sweet the decks may be
Aside from being a human, which is a very relevant creature type in Commander, Modern and basically every other MTG format, Esper Sentinel is good because it reads: Whenever an opponent casts their first noncreature spell each turn, draw a card unless that player pays X, where X is Esper Sentinels power. Its a bit like Rhystic Study, but the cost can be far higher if youve got things that make humans stronger or you can put +1/+1 counters onto Esper Sentinel
The odd charm has a bit bolted on but it is typically for emergencies only as they are so inefficient
It is useful when you can drip feed dorks in you were saccing off anyway and milk a bonus damage out of doing so
