ZZ Top, formed out of the ashes of Gibbons Houston band Moving Sidewalks in 1969, broke new ground as a psychedelic-blues-country hybrid, infused with John Lee Hooker, T-Bone Walker, Jimi Hendrix, Marty Robbins, Tejano music and the spirit of offbeat Texas legends like Doug Sahm, Sam The Sham Samudio and Roky Erickson
